While it was a small fleet, the Koombana Bay Sailing Club made us welcome providing the club facilities over the weekend. The club is in an excellent location and Rear Commodore Phil Truman supported the event providing access to the club facilities (including the bar after sailing) as well as the rescue boat and course laying. 

Conditions were light for day one and after a short delay racing got underway with Glenn Dawson quick off the blocks with his V11 taking 'first blood' in race one in the light shifty conditions.

After a further delay as the wind settled once more, racing resumed in earnest with sailors eager to get the best result to secure much needed ranking points for the up coming IOM World Championship. 

Dawson took no prisoners taking wins in races two & three and seemed untouchable but, race four and struck by weed he posted a seventh that quickly bought him back to the field. In the mean time Sean Wallis, sailing his Venti, had been consistent with 5, 3, 2, 1 after four races and was in the hunt alongside Edgar Vitte a further point behind.

This appeared to be the shift of power with Wallis maintaining his consistency at the front end of the fleet with no result outside the top three until the last race of the day which saw him drop a 4th with his race one 5th to take an eight point overnight lead ahead of Dawson.

Vitte, Barry Donaher, Peter Buchanan & Robert Mews were left to chase down the final position on the podium. Buchanan sailed extremely well taking four wins for the day to hold third overnight but it was extremely tight through to seventh overall.

Forecast conditions for day two looked to be much the same as day one and it was in a light NNE breeze of around 2-4 knots that saw the fleet get away for the first race of the day.  Wallis got off to a good start with a win but the races wins alternated between Dawson and Wallis in the following couple of races.

As the breeze increased to around 4-8 knots, Vitte, Donaher, Buchanan & Mews continued their tussle with Bruce Robins & Roger Paul getting in the mix and putting some good results on their scorecards.

At the end of the day the consistency of Sean Wallis paid dividends taking the championship twenty two points ahead of Dawson after twenty four races, with Barry Donaher taking the final position on the podium.
