Ray's approach to radio sailing was to always be innovative, always be as prepared as possible and to compete to the best of his ability. He was always hard to beat. Ray won numerous State Championships in the 10R class and A Class. Ray had a shop on Hay St in Subiaco with his boats set up in the front window. Many people were introduced to radio sailing after wandering passed Ray's shop and seeing those boats. Ray also held stocks of various Pekabe fittings, mast sections as well as a few hulls from builders in NSW - old Jellybaby and Phase 3 Ten Raters and Spider and Scorpion Marblehead hulls.
He was responsible for importing the first of the Waliki Scalpel boats into Australia and set up a relationship with Janusz which resulted in Janusz spending time in Perth. Ray's contribution to radio sailing in WA was significant.
